Today is the first day of the 'Mind-week' and day 9 of our UPgrade Adventure. Time flies when you are having fun :-) This week is all about UPgrading your Mind and becoming more mindful. What is
happening in your mind? What is your mind sharing with you? And is this UP-grading or DOWN- grading your well-being & happiness? Let's find out!
To open the Mind-week I would love to share a practice that I have been doing for a long time now and is inspired by the book 'The Artist's Way', written by Julia Cameron. The practice is named 'Morning Pages' : a daily journaling practice of three pages of longhand writing, that helps you to clear your mind before starting your day. So you can start your day from a neutral, open and receptive state where creativity can reside. I like to say, you will start your day OPEN MINDED. Perhaps you recognize this: when waking UP the mind starts talking to you. Often times it shares worries, fears, tasks and to do lists. When starting your day with this energy you will experience a total different day then when you would empty your head first and drain your brain. Another advantage of this practice is getting more awareness of your mental realm and reoccurring themes. Try it yourself and experience the benefits!
Move your hand across the page, writing down whatever comes to mind for 3 pages. And I mean whatever!!!
I have to clean the kitchen today and call my mom. What to eat today? It's Tuesday and it's raining. I slept quit well. Not really in the mood to write today. Etc. Etc.
Even when you don't know what to write - write "I don't know what to write" and repeat it till something new pups up in your head that you could write down.
It's very important to not judge yourself. The intent is to empty the mind. It doesn't have to be spelled correctly, it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't have to be creative, just write whatever comes to mind till you have three pages filled.
When you do this practice every day you will start to notice that while writing you sense a quietness and spaciousness in your head. Worries flow away and make space for other things. You create the space for yourself to start your day positive, happy, clear and receptive to new ideas, new ways of creating the life you desire. You are opening your mind so you can be Inspired! It's a powerful tool to empower your life.
1) Write everyday 3 pages.
2) Just write
3) It is what it is
4) No backtracking (so no looking back of what you have written, perhaps in 12 weeks)
5) Keep it Private
6) There are no rules and there is no wrong way!!!
